Suicide

You’re having thoughts of suicide – of killing yourself – and it feels horrible and a little unreal. It may seem that ending your life is the only solution left to stop the unbearable and overwhelming pain that you’ve been feeling for quite some time now. You feel alone, like no one cares about you, and if you do have some people in your life who you know will be saddened by your death, you feel like they will eventually get over the sadness and move on with their lives.

These feelings are so painful that you just want them to stop. So what do you do about them?

First, talk to someone – talk to one of our counselors if no one is there for you or you just need more support. You are a valuable human being who deserves help.

You are not alone! Many people have thoughts of suicide when facing emotional pain that doesn’t seem like it will ever get better and they don’t know what else to do.

If you are reading this, then a part of you still wants to live, even if it doesn’t feel like it. We care about you and we want to help you. Talk with us, we are here to help. You can connect with a counselor by clicking the “Chat Now” button. You also have the option to call or text 988 to speak with a Crisis Counselor 24/7.

Here are some simple ideas to keep you safe and/or distracted while you wait:

  • If it feels safe to do so, put whatever you plan to kill yourself with in another room
  • Think about another time you felt like you couldn’t survive something, but did
  • Look for a guided meditation on YouTube
  • Listen to music that makes you happy or makes you feel connected
  • If you have anyone in your life who you feel cares about you, contact them and just say “Hey, how was your day?”
  • Watch funny videos on YouTube
  • Watch “stories of hope and recovery” on YouTube
